YORK, Pa. – The Messiah men's track & field team competed in a meet at York College (Pa.) on Thursday afternoon, earning three first-place finishes in individual events.
Brendan Provan led the way for Messiah with two top finishes in the long jump and triple jump, while
Brody Beiler floated around the track for a commanding win in the 1500.
Provan, who placed first in three separate events during Messiah's 2021 opening meet at home two weeks ago, turned in fantastic performances in the long jump and triple jump. The senior leaped to a winning 6.76 meters in the long jump and cleared 14.46 meters in the triple jump to claim his second individual crown of the afternoon.
Beiler, who nearly turned in an all-time top Messiah time in the 10K two weeks ago, paced the 1500 pack with a winning time of 4:00.25. The second-place finisher, Noah Griffin of Lebanon Valley College, placed with a time of 4:21.01.
The Falcons turned in a considerable amount of notable second-place finishes as well.
Logan Horst trailed the top performer in the 5000 by just two seconds, crossing the line with a time of 15:37.92.
Derek Heisey contributed a solid performance in the 400 meter hurdles, placing a time of 58.54. Heisey, like Horst in the 5000, trailed the leader by just two seconds. The freshman also placed second in the high jump (1.90m), as a relay team of
Luke Myers,
Cassidy Hoffman,
Josiah Zehr, and
Ryan Thurber placed second in the 4x400 relay (3:34.73).
After placing first in the opening meet of the season (Mar. 19), today's competition did not feature team scoring.
The Falcons will be back in action next Thursday, Apr. 8, when they host the Messiah Multi at Starry Track.
