ANNVILLE, Pa. - It was another dominating performance for the No. 15 Messiah women's lacrosse team. The Falcons continued their dominate march through their MAC Commonwealth regular season schedule with a 17-5 victory over the Lebanon Valley Dutchmen on Saturday evening. Messiah built an 11-2 lead by halftime and rolled through the second half, outscoring Lebanon Valley 6-3 in the period.
A total of 10 Falcons collected at least one point with
Hope Flack,
Grace Gormley, and
Emma Lytle each finishing with a team-high four points. Flack and Gormley each netted four goals while Lytle ended the night with three goals and an assist.
The Falcons remain undefeated with a perfect 12-0 record and a 6-0 mark in the MAC Commonwealth. The Falcons will put that undefeated record on the line this Wednesday night in their regular season finale when they host the Stevenson Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on the Lacrosse Turf.
Opening Up a Lead
It may sound like a broken record, but the Falcons wasted little time opening up a sizable lead on Saturday night. Just as they have done throughout the season, Messiah scored first and built their lead over the course of the first half.
Grace Gormley was first (and second) on the board with a pair of goals in the first five minutes of play. That two-goal start vaulted the Falcons to a 9-0 run to begin the game.
While the Dutchmen had their chances in the half - Lebanon Valley outshot the Falcons 16-15 in the first half and 28-25 on the night - Messiah made the most of their opportunities. The 9-0 opening run was fueled by three scores from
Grace Gormley and two from
Hope Flack.
AbbyEllen Wood,
Amanda Wadsworth, and
Emma Lytle also got in on the action with a goal each.
Lebanon Valley got on the board with back-to-back scores from Jaclyn Little in the final five minutes before the half, but Messiah swiftly responded with scores from
Rachel Delate and
Abby Howard to take an 11-2 advantage at the break.
Getting the Clock Rolling
Just as they did in the first half, Messiah took advantage of their opportunities early.
Hope Flack scored to put the Falcons up by double-digits at 12-2 to get the clock rolling in the second half. Over the next 10 minutes, Messiah added four goals with
Emma Lytle scoring two along with the fourth goals of the night for both
Grace Gormley and Flack.
The 5-0 run to begin the second half put the Falcons up 16-2. While the Dutchmen scored three-straight to tighten the gap,
Paige Megargee capped off the night with a score off a feed from
Riley Latshaw in the final minute.
Megargee's tally made it a 17-5 victory in favor of the Falcons. Messiah now has 11 double-digit victories this season and have outscored their opponents 226-55 in a dozen games.
