CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - The Messiah men's track and field team was in action on Saturday, competing at the DeSales Invitational. The Falcons turned in a half dozen first-place finishes with
Derek Heisey leading the way with a two first-place finishes. Heisey won the 400 Meter Hurles in a time 56.01 and the high jump with a mark of 1.80m.
Brody Beiler won the Steeplechase with a time of 10:03.04, but it was a second-place finish in the 800 Meter that turned heads. His time of 1:51.45 was more than two seconds faster than his previous best time this season. It places him third in the event in Messiah all-time history and also puts him fourth (at the moment) in the country in the event this season. In Beiler's heat of the 800 Meter, four runners turned in times under 1:51.60 with Beiler less than three tenths of a second off the pace set by Stevenson's Iddriss Iddriss (1:51.18). Iddriss is currently third in the country in the event.
The Falcons event of the day might have been the 5000 Meter, where the Falcons took the top three spots with
Josiah Moyer turning in a personal best with a mark of 15:45.23 to win the event by nearly five seconds. Andrew Hutinson (15:50.05) and
Noah Calisti (15:53.12) also had personal bests with new MAC Championship qualifying times, taking second and third, respectively.
Messiah also turned in a strong performance in the 100 Meter with three Falcons earning top-five finishes. Zach Mayo led the effort with a second-place finish in a time of 11.46.
Aedan Wilkinson and
Joshua Horst were close behind taking fourth and fifth with times of 11.63 and 11.77, respectively.
Brendan Provan claimed the Triple Jump with a mark of 13.99 meters while
Logan Horst took first in the 1500 Meter, finishing in 4:04.80.
It total, the men earned 23 top-five finishes on the day with a number of new MAC Qualifying standards broken as well. Messiah will be back in action next Saturday when they travel to Alvernia for a Last Chance Meet before heading to Widener for the MAC Championships on May 6-8.
