NEW ORLEANS, La. – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its weekly National Athletes of the Week award on Tuesday afternoon as
Esther Seeland, for the second time this season, was honored with National Athlete of the Week. Seeland, who earned MAC Track Athlete of the Week yesterday for the third time this season, earns national recognition following a nation-leading performance in the 400 (55.30) on Saturday at the DeSales University Invitational.
The 400 time shattered both the Messiah program record and the MAC Conference record, winning her heat by more than three seconds. With the 400 feat, Seeland now owns two times that lead the nation. The junior mid-distance runner leads the nation in the 800 (2:07.20), along with a second-best mark in the 1500 (4:27.39).
The 400 performance at DeSales on Saturday gave Seeland her third program record at Messiah, currently holding the top time in the 800 and the 1500. Seeland earns her second National Athlete of the Week of the season.
