LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Last Friday, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced their NCAA Division III All-Region teams for the 2021 season. Among the 308 student-athletes honored was Messiah pitcher
Madison Walter, earning Second Team All-East Region.
Walter carried the Falcons to the MAC Commonwealth Championship Series this weekend, with an incredible workload down the stretch. In Messiah's seven Conference Tournament Games, Walter tossed 40 innings, allowing just five earned runs for a 0.88 ERA while striking out 32.
The All-Region honor comes after Walter was named a First Team All-MAC Commonwealth Pitcher. During a shortened 2021 season, Walter pitched 120.2 innings with a team-best 1.10 ERA with 14 complete games. Her best game of the season might have come in the MAC Commonwealth Tournament against the Eastern Eagles, when she threw a complete game no-hitter in Game One of a doubleheader on May 1. Walter struck out seven in the game as Messiah earned the 4-0 victory.
Despite her 1.10 ERA, Walter picked upon 11 wins, going 11-6 on the season with one save. She struck out nearly a batter an inning with 113 fans on the year. Her command of the strike zone was incredible, issuing only nine walks across her 120.1 innings in the circle. With 80 hits and nine walks, Walters' WHIP was a team low, 0.74.
As mentioned, Walter was fantastic in the MAC Commonwealth Tournament, tossing every inning in the Eastern series without allowing an earned run. She then threw 10.1 scoreless innings in the semifinals series against Alvernia, picking up two wins in the process.
Walter and the Falcons saw their season come to a close on Saturday as the MAC Commonwealth Runner-Up with an overall record of 16-12.
