NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. – Just two days after the most successful season in program history came to a close in the Elite Eight, the Messiah women's lacrosse team picked up a trio of All-Region honors from the IWLCA.
Rachel Delate,
Hope Flack, and
Katie Stottlemyer were all honored with First Team All-Metro accolades on Tuesday morning for their play this season.
After postseason awards were not handed out last season, due to the season being shortened as a result of COVID, these are the first All-Region honors that Delate, Flack, and Stottlemyer have earned in their careers.
For Delate, the All-Region honor comes just two weeks after she was named the MAC Commonwealth's Rookie and Attacker of the Year. Delate finished her sophomore season with 63 goals, 60 assists, and 123 points. Her 123 points are the most in a single season in program history and also were the second-most in the country this season. On the year, Delate finished with the third most assists, 16th most goals, and second most points in Division III women's lacrosse. On a dozen different occasions this year, Delate picked up at least seven points in a game, earning a career-high 10 against Stevens on Mar. 27 and Widener on Apr. 10.
In the midfield,
Hope Flack earned her first career All-Region honor, finishing the season with 44 goals and six assists offensively, while also picking up 27 groundballs and causing 15 turnovers. Her 93 draw controls led the team and were nearly double any other Falcon this season. Offensively, she was a consistent offensive weapon for the Falcons, collecting at least two points in 16 games this season. On the draw, she was also stellar all season long, collecting at least four draw controls on 16 occasions as well.
Defensively,
Katie Stottlemyer anchored a defensive effort that was one of the best in the country all season long. The Falcons allowed just 109 goals in 19 games this season, for a 5.11 goals against average. That mark was tops in the MAC Commonwealth this season and fifth-best among all Division III teams this year. During her senior season, Stottlemyer collected 33 groundballs, 26 caused turnovers, and 15 draw controls all while committing just seven turnovers on the season.
As mentioned, Messiah finished the 2021 campaign with an overall record of 18-1, claimed the MAC Commonwealth Championship, and made their first-ever trip to the Elite Eight.
