NEW YORK, N.Y. – On Friday night,
Esther Seeland was in action at the Trials of Miles New York City Qualifier. Seeland competed in the 800 Meter, an event that she already holds the best time in Division III this season. On Friday night, she ran a fantastic race, lowering her personal best time in the event, while also lowering her program and MAC records with a mark of 2:02.75.
Running at the Icahn Stadium in New York City, Seeland's time was a half second faster than her previous best mark of 2:03.25 from earlier this season on May 1 at the Virginia Grand Prix.
Seeland's first split was exactly 1:00.00 before coming home in 1:02.75 to win the C Heat of the 800 Meter with a time of 2:02.75.
Friday's race was a preview of what next week's National Championship in the 800 Meter could be with Seeland (top seed in the event) and SUNY Geneseo's Emily Pomainville (second seed) racing in the same heat. As mentioned, Seeland won the battle, with Pomainville finishing in third place with a time of 2:04.63 less than a half second slower than her best mark of the season at 2:04.36.
Seeland and Pomainville will see eachother again next weekend in the NCAA Division III National Championships in Greensboro, N.C.
