Springer Claims CoSIDA Academic All-District Honor

GREENWOOD, Ind. – On Thursday afternoon, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced its 2021 Academic All-District Women's Basketball Team. For the first time in her career, forward Leah Springer was named First Team All-District, adding to a long list of accolades for her 2021 season. Springer becomes the sixth player in Messiah women's basketball program history to be honored with the academic award.

Springer, a graduate student at Messiah, earned a 3.97 cumulative grade point average during her four years as an undergraduate, being named a MAC Senior Scholar-Athlete for the 2019-20 season. Earning a degree in economics, Springer pivoted towards a master's degree in Intercollegiate Athletic Leadership, recording a 4.00 cumulative grade point average in her first year of graduate studies. Helping to complete a perfect season (11-0) and lead the Falcons to their fifth-consecutive MAC Commonwealth Championship, Springer was a team-leader in points per game (15.9) and rebounds per game (9.8), recording seven double-doubles. Being named MAC Commonwealth Player of the Year for the second time of her career, Springer received her third All-Conference nod as a Falcon after ending the season with four-straight double-double performances.

In addition to her MAC conference accolades, Springer was honored with her second-straight All-American honors by the Women's College Basketball Association (WBCA) and D3hoops.com. The announcement came just a week after Springer was named First Team All-Region and Co-Regional Player of the Year by D3hoops.com.

CoSIDA will announce its Academic All-American teams for women's basketball on Wednesday, May 26.
