Men's Track & Field Impresses At Alvernia Winter Invite

READING, Pa. – The Messiah men's track and field competed in the Alvernia Winter Invite at Alvernia University on Saturday to begin its 2022 indoor schedule. The Falcons competed well throughout the whole competition, led by strong performances in the 3000m from Noah Calisti (9:03.92) and the 1-mile from Logan Horst (4:23.31). Calisti earned himself a first-place finish in the 3000m as Horst finished second overall in the 1-mile event.
 
Zachary Mayro represented Messiah in the 60m, turning in a time of 7.33s, the 11th-best time out of a field of 60 total competitors.
 
In the 60m hurdles, Andrew Schott (9.30s), Matthew Puleo (9.40s) and Joel Rhinehart (9.57s) all contributed strong performances in the 60m hurdles. Schott's time was the sixth-fastest time overall.
 
Horst turned in a strong performance in the 800m as well, finishing seventh overall with a time of 2:02.02. Adam Hostetler (2:07.80) also competed in the event, finishing second in the third heat.
 
Two Falcons competed well in the 5000m as Josh Brauman turned in a time of 16:50.49 and Jonathan Wyrick crossed the line in 16:57.67. Brauman earned a fifth-place finish while Wyrick finished just after his teammate, placing sixth.
 
Lance Kauffman earned a top-10 finish in the 3000m, placing 10th with a time of 9:43.79.
 
In the high jump, Derek Heisey registered an impressive height of 1.80m, placing sixth overall. Noah Keitel represented the Falcons in the long jump, leaping to a distance of 5.97m. John Steele competed in the triple jump for the Falcons, earning a mark of 12.74m, qualifying for seventh overall.
 
Overall, it was a strong showing from the Falcons, establishing momentum to tackle the rest of their 2022 indoor schedule.
 
What's Next
The Falcons travel to Franklin & Marshall College next Friday, Jan. 28, to compete in the Little Dip Invitational.
