Historic Attack Leads to Comfortable Sweep of Lions

READING, Pa. – The Messiah women's volleyball team overwhelmed the Albright Lions in a MAC Commonwealth match on Tuesday evening to the tune of a 3-0 (25-11, 25-15, 25-9) sweep. The Falcons jumped out front right from the start and cruised to their fourth conference win of the season. Mackenzie Feight led five Falcons with at least half a dozen kills, finishing the night with 13 kills and a .524 hitting percentage.

As a team, the Falcons hit at a .511 clip, collecting 51 kills on 88 attempts while committing just six errors. The Falcons' .511 hitting percentage on Tuesday night is the highest hitting percentage for a Messiah women's volleyball team in a single match in at least the last 20 years (Messiah's match-by-match statistics for women's volleyball date back to 2002 season). The previous instance of a hitting percentage over .400 for the Falcons came on Sept. 21, 2019 against Rosemont when Messiah hit .468 as a team.

With the victory, Messiah moves to 15-6 overall and 4-2 in the MAC Commonwealth. The Falcons will be back in action on Saturday when they host a tri-match against Arcadia and Haverford with matches at 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. The Falcons will start their day against Haverford Fords at 9:00 a.m. on Jordan Court in Hitchcock Arena.

Dominating Attack
Tuesday's dominating attack was an effort the best attack of at least the last two decades for Messiah women's volleyball. The Falcons started the night with back-to-back kills from Mackenzie Feight and never looked back. Everyone got in on the action for the Falcons with five different Falcons finishing the night with at least six kills. Feight led the way with 13 kills and a .524 hitting percentage.

Feight was far from the only efficient attacker. All six Falcons that attempted at least three swings finished the night with a hitting percentage north of .476. Caitlin Lielbriedis ended the night with a dozen kills while Chayney Barnhart (8 kills, .571%), Rachel Rashford (7 kills, .500%), Julia Bowen (6 kills, .556%), and Emma Swartz (4 kills, .571%) all finished the night with multiple kills while hitting over .500.

Messiah's 51 kills on the night are their most in a three-set match this season, while their six errors ties the Hood match on Sept. 13 for their fewest on the season.

Facilitating the offense was Emma Swartz, who handed out 34 assists in the three-set match. Swartz was also phenomenal at the service line, collecting a career-high nine aces on the night.
