XML Box Score OWINGS MILLS, MD - The Messiah Field Hockey team made a statement early Wednesday afternoon, taking down conference opponent Stevenson 6-0. The Falcons used a dominant first quarter to overpower the Mustangs and continued to pitch a shutout the rest of the afternoon.
Leah Bryner led the way with two goals on the day.
The Falcons move to 12-2 on the season and 7-0 in the conference. They will play Lebanon Valley on Wednesday, October 26 for their last conference match of the season in Grantham, Pa.

The Falcons jumped on the board early with two tallies in the first four minutes to take a 2-0 advantage and would never surrender the lead.
Kelsey Heltzel assisted on both goals, one by
Leah Bryner and the other by
Ashlyn Smith.
Madi Johnson made it a 3-0 game later in the quarter before
Jenna Lutz capped off the first quarter with a goal of her own to give the Falcons a 4-0 lead at the end of period one. The Falcons out shot the Mustangs 9-0 in the first and had 5 corners to Stevenson's zero. The second quarter was much more evenly contested than the first, with Stevenson outshooting Messiah 3-2. Messiah took that 4-0 lead into the half as no goals were scored in the second quarter.
Bryner tacked on another goal in the third quarter when Messiah only took two shots to hold a 5-0 lead going into the final quarter of action.
Teagan Murrie added one more goal to make it a 6-0 conference win on the afternoon.

Bryner's two tallies were third and fourth goals of the year while
Ashlyn Smith tacked on her team leading 13th goal of the season. Johnson and Lutz each added their second goals of the season while for
Teagan Murrie it was her first score of the season.
Kelsey Heltzel's two assists gives her five on the year.
Overall, the Falcons out shot the Mustangs 14-6 thanks to a crooked 9-0 shot advantage in the first quarter. Outside the first quarter, it was Stevenson who out shot Messiah 6-5 as the game was relatively even the rest of the way. The same can be said for penalty corners with Messiah having an 11-4 advantage. However, without the first quarter stats, Messiah only held a two corner advantage (6-4) for the rest of the game.

The win brings the Falcons record to 12-2 on the year and remain perfect with a 7-0 mark in the conference. They will take the weekend off before they return to MAC Commonwealth action next Wednesday, October 26 when the Falcons host the Lebanon Valley Flying Dutchmen. That game will be held on Anderson Field at 7:00 PM in Grantham, Pa.
