Men's Basketball Falls Short In Tip-Off Championship

GRANTHAM, Pa. - The Messiah men's basketball team fell short in the 2022 Spring Hill Suites Camp Hill Tip-Off Tournament Championship opposite Catholic University of America, 60-42, in Hitchcock Arena on Saturday afternoon. Despite the loss, both Dylan Cuperus (11 points) and Bryce Coletti (10 points) each notched double-figures in scoring. The Falcon duo earned All-Tournament recognition as Coletti reeled in a team-high nine rebounds.

The Falcons trailed by just four points (24-20) at the half, but Catholic outscored Messiah 36-22 to take the tournament crown. Messiah shot 29.3% overall, connecting on just 3-of-23 (13.0%) attempts from beyond the arc.

Messiah will be back in action on Wednesday, Nov. 16, traveling to Immaculata University for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.

Action
The first half was relatively even as the Falcons and Cardinals traded buckets with the Cardinals largest lead of the half being six points at 16-10. Messiah briefly held a one-point lead at 19-18 but Catholic pulled through and held a 24-20 lead at half. Messiah remained close in the beginning of the second half until Catholic took over. Catholic went on a 21-7 run to open up the game 56-37 in favor of the Cardinals. Catholic would hold on to win the Messiah Tip-Off Tournament 60-42.

Stats
Catholic led Messiah 15-3 in Points off turnovers and shutout the Falcons in fast break points (15-0). The Falcons shot under 30% from the field (29.3%) in the game and went 3-23 from beyond the arc. Dylan Cuperus led the Falcons with 11 points while Bryce Coletti was next with ten points.

Bryce Coletti and Dylan Cuperus were named to the All-Tournament team as well for their play this weekend.

The loss is the Falcons first of the year, as they fall to 2-1. They will travel to Immaculata to play the Mighty Macs on Wednesday, Nov. 16 in Immaculata, Pa.
