GRANTHAM, Pa. –
Andrew Hutchinson and
Logan Horst are heading to Michigan for the 2022 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships this weekend. Hutchinson and Horst will run on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 12:00 p.m. on the campus of Michigan State University on the Forest Akers East Golf Course. It will be the first time in nearly 40 years that the Falcons have sent multiple runners to the National Championship race.
Logan Horst will be making his second appearance at the National Championship after finishing 143rd last season in Louisville, Ky. For Hutchinson, this weekend's race will be the first appearance at the National Championship in his career.
Horst and Hutchinson have been the top two runners for the Falcons all season long. The duo led the Falcons to the MAC Championship, finishing first and second. Horst won his second-straight MAC Runner of the Year honor by winning the MAC Championship with a time of 24:54.3 while Hutchinson was close behind in second place with a time of 25:05.9.
Two weeks later at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals, the duo punched their ticket to the National Championships with top-10 finishes in the Region. This time it was Hutchinson finishing just ahead of Horst with a sixth-place finish and a time of 25:21.0. Horst took 10th place with a time of 25:31.4.
In all eight races this season, Horst and Hutchinson have been neck and neck. Up until the Regional Championship, Horst was Messiah's top finisher, but Hutchinson was never more than 30 seconds behind his teammate and on most occasions was within just a few seconds.
Messiah men's cross country has earned three All-American honors in program history. Most recently, Dave Entenmann earned All-American honors at the 1990 National Championship. Along with Entenmann, Messiah's previous All-Americans were Roy Swaisgood in 1985 and Shylock Ndlovu in 1986.
As mentioned, the Men's Championship Race will get underway in East Lansing, Mich. at noon at the Forst Akers East Golf Course. Fans can follow along with a live stream at ncaa.com.
