Trio of Second and Third Quarter Goals Push Falcons into Title Game

GRANTHAM, PA - The Messiah field hockey team will advance to the MAC Commonwealth Championship after taking down the Albright Lions 6-1 late on Wednesday night. Ashlyn Smith scored twice on the night while Kline, Seubert, Bair and Koenig each scored for the six Falcon goals.

The Falcons will host No. 2 seeded York College on Saturday, November 5, at 1:00 PM for the MAC Commonwealth Championship.

Action
Messiah dominated the time of possession in the opening quarter, shooting a barrage of seven shots, four on goal but Veronica Heckman made four saves for the Lions in goal to keep the game tied at 0-0 entering the second quarter. The Falcons had five penalty corners but could not convert on any of those opportunities and held Albright to no shots in the first quarter. Less than a minute later, Seubert tacked on a penalty stroke to double the lead at 2-0. Messiah added one more goal off a Teagan Murrie shot that ricocheted off the post back to Carrie Bair who found the back of the cage to take a 3-0 lead into the break.

After the break the first seven minutes belonged to Albright, as it was the Lions who dominated the time of possession which led to a goal from Olivia Lorah to bring the Lions to within one. Messiah answered four and five minutes later courtesy of Ashlyn Smith who increased the lead to 5-1. Anna Koenig added the final goal for the Falcons to make it 6-1 at the end of the third quarter. That score would hold until the final horn sounded.

Stats
Ashlyn Smith scored her team leading 14th and 15th goals on the season, while Mallory Kline added her 11th on the year. Seubert's penalty stroke was her sixth goal of the year while Carrie Bair tacked on her fourth of the year. Anna Koenig scored her first goal of the season for the Falcons late in that high scoring third quarter. Messiah out shot the Lions 26-7 in the contest and held the penalty corner advantage 15-8.
