Top-Seeded Eastern Too Much for Falcons in Semifinal

ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - The top-seeded Eastern Eagles earned a 3-0 (25-13, 25-23, 25-21) victory over the Messiah women's volleyball team on Wednesday evening in the MAC Commonwealth Semifinal. With the setback, Messiah's season comes to an end with an overall record of 19-10. In the match, Chayney Barnhart collected 10 kills and hit .692 for the Falcons. Emma Swartz finished the night with 21 assists and a trio of service aces in the match.

The Eagles move on to the MAC Commonwealth Championship Match against No. 2 Stevenson on Saturday.

Action
Eastern jumped out to an early 10-3 lead in the first set and commanded the rest of the set to win 25-13. The second set started off even with the Eagles holding an 11-10 lead. The Eagles won eight straight points and were on their way to another easy set win until the Falcons found momentum and won nine of the next 12 points to pull within three at 19-22. After two Eastern points, the Falcons rattled off four set points before Eastern closed out the set winning 25-23. The third set was close throughout until Eastern opened up a six point lead at 18-12. Messiah rallied back to tie the game at 20-20 and 21-21 but Eastern was too much for the Falcons as the Eagles won the set 25-21 and the match 3-0.

Stats
Mackenzie Feight led the Falcons in kills with 13 while Barnhart was the next closest with ten. Emma Swartz led the way in assists with 21 and Maddy Eby had a team high 11 digs. Messiah hit .106 in the match with 30 kills.

The loss ends the Falcons season as they finished with a record of 19-10 and 5-3 in conference play. No. 1 seeded Eastern will host No. 2 seeded Stevenson on Saturday, November 5th for the MAC Commonwealth Championship.
