Pride Pull Away in Second Half, Knock off Falcons

CHESTER, PA. – The Pride used a consistent effort in both halves to take down the Falcons 66-58 to hand the Falcons their first conference defeat of the season. Tim Edwards had a double-double on the day scoring 16 points and grabbing 12 boards.

The Falcons will host the Wilson College Phoenix on Wednesday, December 7 at 6:00 PM in Grantham, Pa.
 
First Half
The first half was tightly contested with neither team generating a lead larger than four with under eight minutes to go. With seven minutes to go, Messiah led 20-17. The Pride used a strong ending to the half making four three pointers to head into the break with a 33-27 lead.
Claiborne led the Falcons in the half with nine points while Tim Edwards added eight points. The Falcons went 11-29 from the floor (37.9%) and went 2-7 from three, good enough for 28%. Widener on the other hand went 7-16 from three, a 43% mark.
 
Second Half
The Falcons opened up the second half on a 7-0 run taking a 34-33 lead to prompt a Widener timeout. The score was relatively close throughout the second half until Widener started to pull away under the ten minute mark. Widener went on an 12-2 run going 4-5 from the floor to open up a 57-46 lead with just under seven minutes to go in the game. After opening up a 13-point lead, the Falcons had a 7-0 run of their own to cut the deficit to seven with under five to go. An Evan Parker three with 1:47 to go had the Falcons within five at 63-58 before a Widener timeout stopped the game at 1:35. The Widener Pride prevailed 66-58 after making multiple free throws to give the Falcons the loss.

Stats
Tim Edwards collected a double-double on the day with 16 points and 12 rebounds, both of which led the Falcons. Claiborne and Penley each added 12 points. Overall, the Falcons shot 20-62 from the floor (32%) and 5-21 from beyond the arc (23%). The Pride on the other hand shot 40% from the field and 36% from beyond the arc.

The loss takes the Falcons to 5-3 and 1-1 in the conference. Messiah will host Wilson College on December 7 at 6:00 PM in Grantham, Pa. next week. That game will be held on Jordan Court in Hitchcock Arena.
