BALTIMORE, MD – Messiah used four goals in the first and fourth quarters to take down the Gophers 12-8 on Wednesday night.
Seth Libby led Messiah with four goals on the night.
Messiah will host Elizabethtown on March 19, at 1:00 PM in Grantham, Pa.
First Half
Goucher got on the board first with a goal from Jared Heath to open up the scoring for Goucher, but it was all Messiah for the rest of the first quarter. The Falcons put up four goals in the first quarter courtesy of
Aaron Shaw,
Owen Joyce and two from
Seth Libby.
Aaron Shaw tacked on another goal to begin the second quarter to give Messiah a commanding 5-1 lead with 14 minutes to go in the half. After three scores from the Gophers,
RJ Mellor added the sixth goal of the half for Messiah with just under three minutes remaining. Heath would add another goal right before the half to cut the Messiah lead to 6-5 at the break.
Second Half
The Gophers scored two goals to take a 7-6 lead before
Sam Stone and
RJ Mellor added goals in the third quarter to take an 8-7 lead into the final quarter of play and would be the last lead change of the game.
The fourth quarter saw four goals scored in the first six minutes from
Sam Stone,
Owen Joyce and two more from
Seth Libby. Goucher would tack on an additional goal before the end of the game, but Messiah would win the game 12-8.
Stats
Messiah out-shot Goucher 45-29 and also had 15 more shots on goal (28-13). Messiah won 17 faceoffs to Goucher's six and had 37 ground balls to the Gophers 22.
Seth Libby led the Falcons in goals with four while four other Falcons chipped in with two goals.
Aaron Shaw,

Owen Joyce each added two goals on the night.
Nathan Branson led the team in ground balls with six while
Frank Honey had five.
Kyle Anderson caused three turnovers in the game while goalie
Josh Grove tallied five saves.
