GRANTHAM, Pa. – For the third time in her career, graduate forward
Leah Springer was named an All-American. This season she earned two honors, picking up a Second Team nod from D3hoops.com and an Honorable Mention selection from the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). Springer, after leading the MAC Commonwealth in scoring with 17.5 points per game.
Springer's WBCA honor is the 10th all time accolade in Messiah women's basketball history. She becomes the first Falcon in women's basketball to earn three career nods by the WBCA after earning First Team accolades in 2019-20 and 2020-21. Her D3hoops.com Second Team honor is also the third of her career from the website. Springer was preciously a First Team honoree in 2019-20 and claimed Second Team honors in 2020-21.
Springer adds to her list of 2021-22 accolades which includes a MAC Commonwealth First Team nod, MAC Commonwealth Player of the Year, Region 5 Player of the Year (D3hoops.com), and a CoSIDA Academic All-America honor.
The graduate forward helped to lead Messiah to its sixth-straight MAC Commonwealth Championship with a 69-55 home victory over Widener University on Feb. 27. During the MAC Commonwealth Tournament, Springer became the program's leading rebounder, reeling in her 1,006th career rebound to pass Alecia Rohrer (2015-19). She finished her career with 1,039 career rebounds.
On the offensive end, Springer ends her career as the second name listed under Messiah women's basketball's all-time scoring list. She totaled 1,777 points throughout her six-year playing career, just 25 points shy of the all-time program record held by Christina Vouriotis (1,802 points).
Springer, who is now a three-time All-American, is also a three-time MAC Commonwealth Player of the Year recipient, as well as a three-time D3hoops.com Regional Player of the Year.
