Falcons Compete Well at Danny Curran Invitational

CHESTER, Pa. – The Messiah men's track and field team competed in the Danny Curran Invitational at Widener University on Saturday. Messiah competed well in the two-day event, highlighted by a third-place finish in the 1500m by Logan Horst (4:00.01).
 
Saturday's events:
 
1500m
Horst, as mentioned, recorded an impressive third-place finish in the 1500m. The junior's time of 4:00.01 was a team-best mark and Josiah Moyer placed 11th overall, crossing the line in 4:05.54. Nathan Kimmel (4:11.85), Devon Fogel (4:12.36), Silas Buckwalter (4:19.81), and Derek Guissanie (4:43.66) all registered strong finishes for the Falcons.
 
110m Hurdles
Matthew Puleo recorded a strong finish in the 110m hurdles, placing ninth overall with a time of 17.46s. Puleo competed in a competitive field of 13 runners as Rowan's Marquise Young topped all competition with a time of 14.96s.
 
100m Dash
Messiah had two representatives in the 100m dash, Aedan Wilkinson and Joshua Horst. Wilkinson registered a time of 11.78s as Horst crossed the line with a time of 11.85s. Both Falcons competed in the third heat, placing sixth and seventh, respectively.
 
400m
Both Connor Daudt and Ryan Thurber represented the Falcons in the 400m. Daudt recorded a time of 53.86 as Thurber crossed the line right after his teammate, registering a time of 53.88s.
 
800m
In a strong field of 54 runners, Messiah had four runners earn top-30 finishes. Moyer earned the team-best time, crossing the line in 2:01.92. Moyer plaed 18th overall as Kimmel placed 19th overall, finishing with a time of 2:02.21. Daudt and Cassidy Hoffman also turned in quality performances, earning respective times of 2:02.30 and 2:02.46.
 
400m Hurdles
Derek Heisey, recording a fourth-place finish in a field of 16 runners, performed well for Messiah in the 400m hurdles. Heisey registered a time of 55.54s as Adam Hostetler also recorded a top-ten finish, placing eighth overall with a time of 59.65s.
 
200m
Brendan Provan and Wilkinson competed in the 200m for Messiah, each turning in top-15 times. Provan placed 11th overall, recording a time of 23.08s as Wilkinson placed 14th overall with a time of 23.12s.
 
3000m Steeplechase
Jonathan Wyrick, in a small field of five runners, performed well in the 3000m steeplechase event. Being the lone Falcon, Wyrick crossed the line with a time of 10:43.28.
 
Long Jump
Provan earned a strong finish in the long jump, placing fourth overall in a field of 27 jumpers with a top mark of 6.55m. Landon Kerr (5.89m), Matthew Puleo (5.55m), and Ryan Thurber (5.17m) all recorded strong finishes as well.
 
Friday's events:
 
5000m
Messiah had five runners compete in the four-heat 5000m event. Horst earned a team-best time in the 5000m, placing fifth overall out of a field of 78 total runners with a time of 14:52.52.
 
In addition to Horst's impressive performance, four other Falcons competed well. James Sahakian (16:55.43), Ray Truex (17:15.50), Jackson Hazen (17:21.28), and Ryan McAllister (18:07.02) all turned in quality performances.
 
10,000m
The Falcons competed strong in the 10,000m event. As mentioned, Messiah placed three runners in the top five, as Hutchinson (31:30.70), Costello (31:33.42), and Calisti (31:53.44) placed second, third, and fourth overall, respectively. Isaac Covert registered an impressive 12th-place finish as well, crossing the line in 32:45.24.
 
Triple Jump
Provan represented Messiah in the triple jump, registering a fourth-place finish with a mark of 13.94m. Provan was the lone Falcon competing in the event as Rowan's Ahmir Johnson topped all competition with a mark of 14.44m.
 
Shot Put
Hoyt Lechthaler and Ryan O'Donnell represented Messiah in the shot put event. The two Falcons competed well amongst a strong field of 29 throwers. Lechthaler achieved a mark 10.25m as O'Donnell registered a distance of 9.88m.
 
Discus Throw
Lechthaler competed in his second throwing event of the afternoon with the discus throw competition. Lechthaler recorded a top-ten finish, placing tenth overall with a mark of 36.37m. Christian Pilawski also turned in a strong performance, placing eighth out of the 22 total throwers with a mark of 36.75m. Widener's Jared Ware placed first with a top mark of 45.34m.
 
Pole Vault
Andrew Overman was the lone Falcon competing in the pole vault, vaulting to a top height of 3.55m. Overman competed in a field of eight vaulters as SUNY Cortland's Zachary Nyhart topped all competition with a mark of 4.60m.

The Falcons are back in action next weekend at the Messiah Multi / Invitational (Apr. 7-9) at the Starry Athletic Complex.
