Mary Washington Commands Messiah, Wins 19-7

FREDERICKSON, VA. - The Messiah men's lacrosse team fell to Mary Washington this afternoon 19-7. Aaron Shaw and Seth Libby each had two goals on the afternoon.

The Falcons will host the Alvernia Golden Wolves on April 6, at 6:00 PM in Grantham, Pa.

First Half
Messiah was able to hang with Mary Washington in the first quarter and took an early 2-1 lead with six minutes to go in the quarter. Both goals were courtesy of Seth Libby to tie the game at 1-1 and then to go ahead 2-1. That would be the only lead the Falcons had on the day, as the Eagles would score two goals to take a 3-2 advantage into the second quarter.

The second quarter was all Mary Washington, out-scoring Messiah 8-1 to take an 11-3 lead into the break. The lone goal for the Falcons in the second quarter came off the stick of Aaron Shaw to make the game 3-6 with over 11 minutes to go in the half. The Eagles would score five more times before the halfway point.

Second Half
Messiah would net a pair of goals in each remaining quarter with Nathan Branson starting off the scoring in the second half with a goal with 13:17 to go in the quarter. Later on, it was Shaw who added his second goal of the day with just under ten minutes remaining in the quarter. Mary Washington continued scoring, rattling off six straight goals to make the score 19-5 with 9:12 remaining the game. Christian Santangini and Zander Stringer tacked on the other to goals for the Falcons on the day.

Stats
The Eagles out-shot the Falcons 51-26 and won 25/29 face-offs in the game. The Eagles also doubled the ground ball total from Messiah at a mark of 46 to 23. Aaron Shaw and Seth Libby each had two goals on the day for the Falcons. Corum McCuller led the team in ground balls with six while Owen Joyce added four ground balls. Ben Sheker caused three turnover in the game as well.

The loss brings the Falcons record to 5-5 and will play again on April 6 at home against Alvernia. That game is scheduled to start at 6:00 PM in Grantham, Pa.
