Falcons Claim Mason-Dixon Invite by Single Point

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - The Messiah men's track and field team earned a one-point victory over the Susquehanna Riverhawks at the Mason-Dixon Invitational hosted by the Gettysburg Bullets. The Falcons finished with 180 team points, just beating the Riverhawks who ended the day with 179 team points.
 
Rounding out the top five were Dickinson (140 points), Gettysburg (76.5), and Elizabethtown (68), finishing in third, fourth, and fifth respectively.
 
Messiah will be back in action later this week when they head to the Penn Relays hosted by the University of Pennsylvania on Thursday and Friday. Messiah will complete next Saturday at the Paul Kaiser Classic at Shippensburg.
 
Notable Performances
The Falcons had a number of quality performances on the day with the 800 Meter one of the highlights for Messiah. Brody Beiler won the event in a time of 1:56.40 with Alex Scheib (1:58.46) taking fifth and Devon Fogel (2:00.44) finishing in seventh.
 
It was a big day for the Messiah throwers with Hoyt Lechthaler turning in a new PR in the Discus with a mark of 38.57 meters. He finished in fourth place, just ahead of Christian Pilawski (37.70 meters) in fifth, who was riht around his personal best as well.
 
Clay Miller earned a spot at the MAC Championships in the Javelin with a fifth-place finish and a toss of 45.88 meters.
 
Sticking with the field events, Derek Heisey's High Jump mark of 1.93 meters earned him a third-place finish and set a new outdoor PR for him in the event. In addition to his stellar performance in the High Jump, Heisey won the 400 Meter Hurdles with a good time of 55.79. He won the event by nearly two seconds.
 
The Falcons were dominate in the 5000 Meter, taking the top six spots. Ander Hutchinson won the event in 15:14.47. Hutchinson was followed by Noah Calisti (15:35.31), Kyle Costello (15:41.10), Isaac Covert (15:56.40), Brody Beiler (16:06.19), and Matt Higgs (16:07.62).
 
What's Up Next
The Falcons will compete at the Penn Relays on Thursday and Friday before heading to the Paul Kaiser Invitational hosted by Shippensburg next Saturday.
