Women's Lacrosse Dominates On Senior Day

GRANTHAM, Pa. – The No. 15 Messiah women's lacrosse team celebrated its Senior Day with a commanding victory over visiting Eastern University, besting the Eagles, 20-2. The Falcons registered 10 different goal scorers in the victory as Rachel Delate led the way with a game-high four goals.
 
With the win, Messiah improves its overall record to 13-4 (7-1 MAC Commonwealth).
 
Messiah issued a dominant opening quarter of play to bury the Eagles early. The Falcons notched six different goal-scorers in the first quarter as Ehryn Groothoff and Amanda Wadsworth led the way with two tallies each. Messiah was successful in 5-of-8 draw controls, playing sound defense when called upon. Goalkeeper Mackenzie O'Haver recorded two saves in the cage as the Falcons owned a commanding 8-0 lead at the end of the quarter. Abigail Evans, Grace Gormley, Rachel Delate, and Makenzie Schnur all contributed goals in the quarter.
 
The Falcons continued their offensive momentum throughout the second quarter. Messiah outscored the Eagles in the quarter, 6-1, to bring a 13-goal advantage (14-1) into halftime. Jana Krihak got herself on the scoresheet at the 9:24 mark, the senior's second goal of the campaign. Heading into halftime, the Falcons had eight different goal-contributors, led by Groothoff and Delate each tallying three goals. In the half, Messiah outshot Eastern, 21-5.
 
Messiah outshot the Eagles in the third quarter, 6-3, scoring four times. In the quarter, four different Falcons scored, as Delate, Emma Lytle, Krihak, and Jordan Lewicki all notched goals.
 
The Falcons cruised in the fourth quarter to wrap up the victory, scoring two goals in the period to win 20-2. Delate, Lytle, and Groothoff all recorded hat tricks in the win as Wadsworth, Schnur, and Krihak all recorded multi-goal performances as well.
 
 
 
What's Next
The Falcons clinch the two seed for the upcoming MAC Commonwealth Tournament this week. Messiah will host Stevenson University on the Lacrosse Turf this Wednesday, May 4, at a time to be determined.
