AUSTIN, Texas - On Thursday afternoon, the College Sports Information Directors of American (CoSIDA) announced the 2021-22 Academic All-District Teams for baseball and softball. Among the honorees was Messiah left fielder Kasey Caras, who earned the first Academic All-District honor from CoSIDA in his career.

A senior, who just graduated with an Actuarial Science degree, Caras graduated with a 3.96 cumulative GPA.

Caras earns just the fourth-ever Academic All-District honor from CoSIDA in Messiah baseball history. Bryce Minninger earned the first in 1987 while Joseph Saufley claimed a pair of honors in 2015 and 2016.

The Phoenixville, Pa. native was named to the All-MAC Commonwealth Second Team last season (this year's All-Conference honors will be announced next week). This season, Caras was Messiah's leading hitter with a .347 batting average while starting all 40 games for the Falcons in left field. Caras drove home a team-high 37 runs this season while hammering 23 extra-base hits, including five home runs. Additionally, Caras stole 14 bases in 16 attempts while scoring 34 runs and helping the Falcons to one of the best seasons in the last decade.

In his career, Caras drove home 80 runs while hitting 15 home runs and batting .336 with 107 hits.

Messiah finished the 2022 season with an overall record of 20-20, wrapping up their campaign in the MAC Commonwealth Play-In Game.

Caras now has an opportunity to earn CoSIDA Academic All-American honors that will be announced in the coming weeks.
