ANNVILLE, Pa. - On Friday morning, the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) announced the All-MAC Commonwealth men's tennis teams for the 2021-22 season. Among the honorees where a trio of Falcons, including the Conference Rookie of the Year.
Chase Wilson earned MAC Commonwealth honors and was named First Team All-Conference alongside
Connor Rose.
Jonathan Baker claimed Second Team honors as well.
Jonathan Baker's honor was the second of his career after he nabbed Honorable Mention All-MAC Commonwealth accolades last season. For both Wilson and Rose, this year's conference laurels were the first of their career.
Chase Wilson led the Falcons from the No. 1 spot in singles play. He held an overall record of 9-8 on the season, putting together a 4-1 conference mark. Wilson played 13 of his 17 matches at the top spot of the Falcons line-up, holding a 7-6 record on the highest court. For doubles play, Wilson partnered with fellow All-Conference honoree,
Connor Rose and compiled a 11-7 doubles record with the bulk of their matches at No. 1 doubles. In conference play, the duo held a 4-2 conference record. Additionally, Wilson was named the MAC Commonwealth Player of the Week twice during the season. Wilson becomes the sixth Rookie of the Year in Messiah men's tennis history and the first since
Galen Fitzkee in 2018.
Also picking up First Team honors,
Connor Rose won the most singles matches for the Falcons this season. Rose went 12-6 on the season, primarily out of the No. 2 spot in the order. In conference play, he held a strong 5-1 record during singles play and, as mentioned, teamed up with
Chase Wilson in doubles play for an 11-7 mark overall and a 4-2 record in the conference. Like Wilson, Rose was named the MAC Commonwealth Player of the Week on two occasions this season.
An All-Conference honoree a year ago,
Jonathan Baker earned his second-straight honor with a Second Team distinction this season. Baker went 7-7 on the season, playing on courts four and five, but held a solid 4-1 record during singles play in the conference. In doubles play, Baker saw action on all three courts, but solidified his spot at No. 2 doubles with
Josh Gingerich during conference play. The pair held a 4-2 mark in the conference on court two.
The three help Messiah qualify for the MAC Commonwealth Tournament this season, falling in the Conference Semifinals to Stevenson 5-2.
