CHESTER, Pa. – Several members of the Messiah men's and women's track and field teams competed at the today at the Swarthmore Last Chance Meet at Widener University today. Beiler competed in the 800m,
Brieanna Hess competed in the 400m hurdles,
Logan Horst competed in the 1500m,
Amanda Brown competed in the hammer throw, as
Brendan Provan and
Elena Vargas each competed in the triple jump event.
Proovan issued a phenemonal performance in the triple jump, topping all competition with a mark of 14.22m. Provan's mark was a season-best effort, proving to be the top mark amongst the four competitors in the event. Vargas turned in a career-best performance in the triple jump, earning a mark of 11.11m.
Horst turned in the most impressive performance of the day, earning a time of 3:51.72 in the 1500m. The performance was the second-fastest all-time in Messiah men's track and field history in the 1500m event behind Ben Schott (3:50.69).
Beiler recorded a fast time in the 800m, turning in a time of 1:52.40. Beiler's performance placed him third overall in a field of 20 runners.
Hess competed in a strong field of 12 runners, placing ninth overall with her time. Dickinson's Darya Mikusova topped all competition, crossing the line in 1:02.74. Hess ran in the second heat of the event, earning a third-place finish, barely being edged by Misericordia's Lauren Fritzsch by three-tenths of a second.
Andrew Hutchinson ran in the 5000m event, running in a competitive field of 37 runners. Hutchinson crossed the line in 15:29.49.
Brown impressed in the hammer throw, registering a mark of 38.51m. Emily Hilt of Rutgers-Camden achieved the top mark, turning in a mark of 50.53m.
