READING, Pa. - On Thursday evening, the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) announced the postponement of the MAC Commonwealth Softball Tournament due to heavy rain in the forecast. In the middle of the day on Friday, the MAC announced a change to the MAC Commonwealth Championship format with the Tournament moving to a single elimination tournament. As a result, the top-seeded Messiah softball team will move into the MAC Commonwealth Championship Game against the third-seeded Lebanon Valley Dutchmen. The Championship Game is slated for Sunday at 1:00 p.m. in Reading, Pa. on the campus of Alvernia University.
The Stevenson Mustangs and York Spartans were both eliminated from contention with this announcement after Stevenson was defeated by Messiah 1-0 in extra innings and York fell 9-3 against Lebanon Valley on Thursday.
Below is the official announcement from the MAC regarding the tournament update:
Due to the weather forecast in Reading this weekend, it has been determined there is an insufficient amount of time to complete the double-elimination tournaments with Friday & Saturday rained out. The Championship will move to a single-elimination format, creating a winner-takes-all Game 5 to be played on Sunday, May 8.
