Six Falcons Earn All-MAC Commonwealth Accolades

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) announced its 2022 All-MAC Commonwealth Women's Lacrosse Team on Monday afternoon. First-year defender Emma Hagg was honored with Rookie of the Year as a total of six Falcons received All-MAC nods. Rachel Delate, Grace Gormley, and Hagg all claimed First Team accolades while AbbyEllen Wood received a Second Team nod. Amanda Wadsworth and Sadie Leonard rounded off the awards with Honorable Mentions.
 
Hagg becomes the 11th player in Messiah women's lacrosse history to be named Rookie of the Year, becoming the second-straight Falcon to earn the special honor (Delate, 2021). The first-year defender had a phenomenal first season as a Falcon, leading the team in caused turnovers (30) while accumulating 43 ground balls. Hagg recorded nine games with multiple caused turnovers, including a career-high four caused turnovers against Franklin & Marshall (Mar. 2).
 
Delate, who scored a team- and conference-high 67 goals, received a First Team nod for the second-consecutive season. The junior attacker recorded a team-high 90 points, dishing out 23 assists to go along with her team-high mark in goals. Averaging 3.72 goals/game, Delate recorded four games in which she tallied six goals. Delate scored a goal in each of her 18 games played, registering multi-goal performances in all but three contests.
 
Gormley, who earned a Second Team nod last season, was named to the All-MAC Commonwealth First Team after scoring 27 goals and dishing out six assists. The junior midfielder totaled 33 points on the season, recording a career-high six goals at St. Mary's (Md.) (Mar. 10). Gormley notched eight multi-goal games throughout the 2022 campaign.
 
Wood earns her first All-Conference accolade of her career following a season in which she made stellar defensive contributions, totaling 35 ground balls. The sophomore started all 18 games for the Falcons, causing 18 turnovers.
 
Wadsworth and Leonard were honored by the MAC with Honorable Mentions. Wadsworth tallied the third-highest goals total on the team (26) while dishing out 15 assists. Leonard made notable contributions as well, accumulating 40 ground balls while recording 19 caused turnovers. Both players receive their first All-MAC accolade.
 
Messiah (13-5, 7-1 MAC Commonwealth) received an At-Large bid to the 2022 NCAA DIII Women's Lacrosse Championship and will clash with William Smith College in Geneva, N. Y., this Sunday (May 15) at 1:00 p.m.
