GRANTHAM, Pa. – The No. 3 Messiah women's soccer team earned a 1-0 shutout victory over the Wilkes Colonels on Saturday night on Shoemaker Field. The Falcons attempted 22 shots in the contest while holding the Colonels to just one shot in the contest. The match's lone tally came in the 16th minute office the foot of
Brianna Seip as the Falcons move to 5-0-1 on the season.
Messiah will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to New Jersey to take on Rutgers-Camden at 4:30 p.m.
Seip Finishes Rebound
Messiah attempted just one shot in the first 15 minutes, but gave the Colonels a taste of what was in store all night long.
Kenzie Spodnik attempted a blocked shot in the third minute, but the Falcons put Wilkes under heavy pressure from the start. The Falcons found their moment in the 16th minute off the foot of
Brianna Seip. A ball played from the midfield found the foot of Seip at the top of the box.
Seip took a touch to control and then attempted a shot toward the left post. Her attempt hit the post squarely and bounded back into the middle of the box. Despite a teammate and two defenders in the box, Seip was the one who the rebound found. She ran onto the ball in the middle of the box and knocked it into the back of the net for a 1-0 Messiah lead.
That was all the Falcons would need as they held the Colonels to just one shot in the match.
Scoreless Second Half
The Falcons peppered the Wilkes keeper throughout the second half but were unable to find an insurance goal. Messiah attempted a dozen shots after the break, putting five on frame. Wilkes did attempt a shot in the second half with Kiana Jedlicka sending one wide in the 83rd minute.
Messiah picked up their second shutout of the season and improve to 5-0-1 on the year.
