DALLAS, Pa. - In a battle of top-three foes, the No. 3 Messiah women's soccer team drew with the No. 2 Misericordia Cougars on Saturday afternoon. The Cougars took a 1-0 lead late in the opening half, but the Falcons leveled the match with a strike from
Kristina Akselsen drew the Falcons even with her second goal of the season in the 52nd minute.
Messiah nearly took a 1-0 lead midway through the first-half, but the attempt from
Brianna Seip in the 20th minute hit the left post and the score reminded level at 0-0.
The Cougars struck first with a blast from nearly 30 yards out from Ally Waite in the 35th minute. That 1-0 lead held until early in the second half.
Kristina Akselsen leveled the match off a corner kick. The Cougars' keeper misplayed a delivery off a corner and Akselsen was there to hammer home the loose ball in the middle of the net for the equalizer.
The Falcons held a 12-7 advantage in total shots int he contest, but it was the Cougars with the better of the chances, putting five of their attempts on frame against just three from the Falcons.
Despite chances from both sides, Messiah and Misericordia ended in the 1-1 draw. With the tie, Messiah moves to 6-0-2 on the season while the Cougars are now 6-0-1 on the season.
Messiah will be back in action on Wednesday when they host the Dickinson Red Devils on Shoemaker Field at 7:00 p.m.
