GRANTHAM, Pa. – The No. 8 Messiah field hockey team took down the Diplomats of Franklin & Marshall by a score of 4-1 at Anderson Field on Wednesday night to improve to 2-1 on the season. With two goals in each half, the Falcons spread around the scoring on the way to the win.

Next time out, the Falcons travel to Salisbury on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 1:00 p.m. for a weekend tilt against the Seagulls.

First Half
Messiah put a smattering of shots on goal throughout the first quarter and finally broke through on a penalty corner that resulted in
Mallory Kline's first goal of the season. An assist from
Carrie Bair on the play helped the Falcons crack the scoreboard at the tail end of the quarter. In addition to the first tally of the game, the Falcons didn't let the Diplomats record a single shot for the entirety of the period.

The Falcons added to their lead in the second quarter, this time on
Makayla Malcolm's first score of the year. Messiah capitalized on another penalty corner opportunity, with Malcolm scoring off an assist from
Lauren Seubert midway through the quarter. The Diplomats regained some momentum with two penalty corners in the frame, but two saves by
Catie Brubaker kept F&M off the board.

Second Half
With a penalty stroke goal in the third quarter,
Lauren Seubert extended the Falcons' lead to three early in the third quarter. Less than a minute later,
Madi Johnson scored her first goal of the season on an assist from
Ashlyn Smith to put the Falcons up by four.
Catie Brubaker saved all three of the F&M shots in the quarter to keep the lead intact into the final quarter of play.

Brubaker racked up two more saves in the fourth quarter, but the Diplomats were able to scratch across one goal on a penalty corner with six minutes left to break the shutout.

Messiah had three players score their first goals of the 2022 season in a contest where only 19 shots were taken by both teams combined.
Catie Brubaker picked up her second win in goal this season, and recorded seven saves.
