Massive First Half Sets Tone in Victory Over York

YORK, Pa. – On Wednesday night, the Messiah women's basketball team earned a 52-41 victory over the York Spartans. The Falcons dominated the first 25 minutes of the game, holding a 36-12 lead midway through the third quarter. York battled back with an 18-5 run across the next 10 minutes, but Messiah was able to hold on for the 11-point victory.

Chloe Milanesi and Morgan Adams led the Falcons with 15 points apiece. Adams finished with 11 rebounds for a solid double-double. Milanesi nearly made it two double-doubles for the Falcons on Wednesday night, grabbing nine rebounds and dishing out three assists.

The victory moves Messiah to 17-2 overall on the season and extends their winning streak to 14 games. The Falcons remain undefeated in the MAC Commonwealth with a 10-0 record. Messiah will be back in action on Saturday when they host the Albright Lions at 4:00 p.m. on Jordan Court in Hitchcock Arena.

How It Happened
The Falcons opened up a sizable lead early in the second-half thanks to their defense in the first half. Messiah held the Spartans to just 10 points in the first 20 minutes of play while holding York to just 18.2% shooting (4-22) in the opening half. On the offensive end, Messiah scored 10 points in the first quarter then outscored the Spartans 16-4 in the second quarter to build a 26-10 lead at the break.

Chloe Milanesi led the Falcons with 10 points in the first half, knocking down a pair of three pointers. Morgan Adams chipped in with six points in the first 20 minutes for the Falcons.

After the break, Messiah went on a quick 10-2 run in the first four minutes of the third quarter to bump their lead to 24 points, their largest of the game. An Amber High jumper with exactly six minutes remaining in the quarter gave the Falcons a 36-12 lead.

Over the next 10 minutes, York finally got their offense going. The Spartans shot 7-14 from the floor while going on an 18-5 run to close the gap to 11 points at 41-30. Bradi Zumbrum led the way with eight points during the run. Messiah's five points during the stretch came from a Haley Wagman three and a Morgan Adams jumper late in the third quarter.

Across the final five minutes, Messiah got the offense going again. The free throw line was kind to the Falcons during a 9-2 run that crept the lead back to 18 points at 50-32. Messiah went 5-6 from the charity stripe during the stretch to increase the lead.

In the final 90 seconds, York responded with a 9-2 run of their own, but it was not enough as the Falcons claimed the 52-41 victory.
