Frederick, MD – The Messiah women's volleyball team took down the Blazers of Hood College 3-1 (25-17, 23-25, 25-8, 25-17) in the match.
Sarah Hart led the Falcons with 12 kills, while
Emma Swartz put together a 25-assist performance. Messiah improves to 16-6 on the season and 3-2 in conference play.
How it Happened
Both teams were competing early, with the score sitting at 7-6, Messiah would go on a three-point run to take a 10-6 lead. The Falcons would continue to extend their lead to 14-8,
Chayney Barnhart,
Sarah Hart, and
Katie Quesenberry all contributed early on. Following a Mackenzie
Feight attack error, Messiah would go on to score eight out of the next 10 points to grab a 22-11 lead, their largest of the set. However, the Blazers responded with a run of their own. Hood would score the next five points to cut the lead to 22-16, but it would not be enough. Messiah would finish the set strong taking the set 25-17.
Set two did not start well for the Falcons, as the Blazers took a quick 11-7 lead.
Emma Swartz, Barnhart, Feight, and Hart managed to score points throughout, but the Blazers held on to a 17-13 lead at the midway point of the set. However, the Falcons responded in a big way. Going on to score nine out of the next 12 points, including a 7-point run to take a 22-20 lead. The run would not be enough, as the Blazers fended off the Falcons to take set two 25-23.
Heading into set three, the Falcons looked as good as they possibly can. Following an early exchange of points, with the score tied at two, the Falcons would score the next 14 points to take a dominating 16-2 lead.
Anna Weldon, Feight, Hart, Barnhart, and Swartz all would score points during the Falcons run. From that point on, Messiah would take control of the remainder of the set. Taking a 2-1 match lead with a 25-8 win in set three.
Messiah did not lose momentum heading into set four. The Falcons would quickly take a 6-0 lead. The Blazers kept it interesting, scoring hard earned points. However, with the score sitting at 11-6 the Falcons would go on another five-point run extending their lead to 16-6 lead. Hood would score points in bunches throughout. However, Messiah never took their foot off the gas taking the final set 25-17, winning the match 3-1.

The Falcons will be on the road for their final tri-match of the season at Kean University to face, Gordon College, and Kean University. First match is set for 2:00 p.m. Saturday evening.
