Women's Soccer Selected to Host NCAA Opening Weekend

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – On Monday afternoon, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) announced the field for the Division III Women's Soccer Tournament. The Messiah women's soccer team was selected to host the opening weekend and will take on the Westfield State Owls in the Opening Round. The Williams Ephs and Endicott Gulls will also descend on Grantham for the First Weekend of the Tournament.
 
The winners of Saturday's game will square off in the Second Round on Sunday with a spot in the Sweet 16 on the line.
 
Messiah will be playing in their 23rd-straight NCAA Tournament after winning the MAC Commonwealth Championship this past weekend with a 4-1 victory over the York Spartans. The Falcons advanced to the Final Four a year ago and have claimed six National Championships in program history.
 
The Westfield State Owls claimed the Massachusetts State Colligate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) over the weekend with a 2-1 victory over Bridgewater State. Westfield state has claimed 10 total MASCAC Championships and are winners of the last three.
 
The Williams Ephs will head to Grantham for the opening weekend after being selected as an at-large team out of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC). The Ephs hold a 9-3-5 record on the season, but were knocked out of the Conference Tournament via penalty kicks in the semifinals.
 
The Endicott Gulls will wrap up the four teams in this weekend's pod. Endicott enters the NCAA Tournament after winning the Commonwealth Coast Conference with a 2-1 victory over Roger Williams this weekend. Endicott holds a 16-4-0 overall record on the season.
