Flying Dutchmen Overpower Falcons, Drop Back to Back Conference Bouts

ANNVILLE, PA. – The Messiah men's tennis team fell 2-7 at the hands of Lebanon Valley College this afternoon to drop their conference record to 2-2. Connor Rose/Chase Wilson teamed up for the lone doubles win and then it was Connor Rose once again winning in his singles match on court two.

The Falcons are back in action on Tuesday, April 18 when they host the Alvernia Golden Wolves at Criste Courts. First serve is slated for 3:30 PM.

Doubles
The Flying Dutchmen started off strong by taking two of the three doubles courts as the Falcons trailed 1-2 going into singles. Baker/Gingerich dropped their matchup 3-8 while Niemi/Anderson lost 5-8.

The Falcons found a little success at the number one doubles position, with the tandem of Connor Rose and Chase Wilson rallying from a 6-5 deficit to take a 7-6 lead late in the pro-set. After a hold from Justin Schuetz, the match was headed to a set tiebreak. Wilson/Rose jumped ahead quickly 3-0 thanks to a lackadaisical start from the Dutchmen. The Falcons would close out the tiebreak winning 7-3 and taking the set 8-7(3).

Singles
Lebanon Valley kept their foot on the pedal and would take five of the six singles courts. First, Chase Wilson fell at No. 1, 2-6, 1-6 to Schuetz while Josh Gingerich lost at No. 3, 2-6, 4-6 for Lebanon Valley's fourth point of the afternoon.

Connor Rose was the lone Falcon to remain victorious on the afternoon, outlasting Adam Warren in a three-set battle. After dropping the first set, Rose rallied and won the second set in a tiebreak edging Warren 7-5 to take the set 7-6(5). Rose would cruise in the third to take the 3-6, 7-6(5), 6-1 win at No. 2.

Michael Niemi was the next Falcon to fall, dropping his match 3-6, 6-7(3) while Jonathan Baker lost at No. 5, 2-6, 3-6. The final court to end was Carl Anderson on court six. Anderson was able to rally in the second set but also lost 1-6, 4-6.
