ANNVILLE, PA. – The Messiah women's tennis team fell to their conference rivals Lebanon Valley this afternoon by a score of 1-8.
Kylie Walker and
Rebekah Sheaffer won the only point of the afternoon for Messiah, winning at No. 2 doubles 8-6.
The Falcons have a critical home matchup against the Alvernia Golden Wolves on Monday, April 17 for a match starting at 3:30 PM at Criste Courts.
Doubles
The Flying Dutchmen took a 2-1 lead after doubles play to kick off the afternoon. Conjack/Heckman lost 2-8 at No. 1 doubles while Tozzi/Lee dropped their match on court three 3-8.
The duo of
Kylie Walker and
Rebekah Sheaffer got off to a fast 3-0 start in their match and used that momentum to carry them to a tight 8-6 win. That would prove to be the only Falcon point of the afternoon.
Singles
The first match to finish was
Kasi Conjack who dropped both sets on court one 0-6, 1-6. Then
Isabella Heckman lost a well fought battle at No. 2, 4-6, 4-6 before
Rebekah Sheaffer went the distance on court three. After winning the first set in a tiebreak 7-6(5), Sheaffer lost the second and third sets by scores of 4-6 and 2-6 to cap the match at the hour and half mark.
Lebanon Valley would sweep the rest of the singles as well, first with a win at the No. 4 position with
Nicole Lee losing 3-6, 2-6. Then at court five singles,
Angela Tozzi fell 2-6, 3-6 before
Kayla Greiner saw her first singles action of her career at the number six spot. Greiner would play a strong second set but would ultimately fall 2-6, 4-6.
Lebanon Valley would win the match 8-1.
