WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Messiah University softball team topped McDaniel College on the road, 4-2, on Thursday afternoon.
Kelli Durbin,
Lydia Collison, and
Maggie Chinnadurai all made pitching appearances as
Hannah Dyer and
Brielle Rosario recorded multi-hit games for the Falcons.
The non-conference victory improves Messiah's 2023 overall record to 24-10 (9-3 MAC Commonwealth). Collison earned the win in relief as Chinnadurai notched her third save of the season.
Durbin made the start in the circle for the Falcons, her fourth start of the campaign. Durbin had a strong outing, lasting 3.2 innings, allowing just one run while striking out four batters. The first-year pitcher cruised through the first three frames without allowing a run before being pulled in the fourth inning after allowing a game-tying double.
The Falcons got on the board first in the top of the third inning, claiming a 1-0 edge following a double steal that plated
Ali Wagner. Messiah tacked on three more runs in the fifth and sixth innings to build a comfortable 4-1 lead.
McKenzie Shannon and
Hannah Dyer each recorded RBI-singles in the top of the fifth inning as
Allie Book notched a run-scoring knock in the top of the sixth.
Collison and Chinnadurai recorded the final 10 outs in the circle to solidify the 4-2 victory for Messiah. The Falcons totaled nine hits in the win as Shannon, Dyer, and Book all contributed the run-scoring hits.

Messiah returns to Starry Softball Field this Saturday, Apr. 22, to clash with Muhlenberg College for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
