Dutchmen Blank Falcons to End Season

ANNVILLE, PA. - The Messiah women's tennis season came to a close this afternoon after No. 1 Lebanon Valley swept the Falcons 5-0. Messiah was close on courts two and three doubles but could not convert either of those to wins.

LVC claimed courts one and five in singles to end the match.

The season concludes with the Falcons going 7-9 overall.

Delayed Start
With a heavy rain shower and lightning in the area, the beginning of the match was delayed by an hour before the match officially got under way at 5:00 PM.

That delay didn't stop Lebanon Valley in doubles, as the Dutchmen would take a 3-0 lead into singles but that wasn't without push back from courts two and three.

Conjack/Heckman was the first match to end as they were swept 0-8 on court one.

Sheaffer/Walker lost 5-8 on court two but the score line does not tell the entire story. Lebanon Valley came out strong on court two, generating a commanding 5-0 lead. Walker responded with a service hold before LVC would eventually take a 6-1 lead. Sheaffer and Walker would control the next four games, putting Lebanon Valley on their heels to bring the pro-set to within 5-6. The Dutchmen would convert the next two game though for the 8-5 win.

The drama didn't stop there, as court three doubles headed to a set tiebreak after an evenly matched up, back and forth battle as Lee/Tozzi gave the Dutchmen all they could handle. Lebanon Valley would win the tiebreak 7-3 for the 8-7(3) win.

Singles
With the convincing 3-0 lead, the Dutchmen had to win two courts to end the match, which they did on courts one and five. Kasi Conjack lost 1-6, 0-6 while Nicole Lee fell 0-6, 1-6 for Lebanon Valley's fifth and final point of the afternoon.

The remaining matches were halted once the fifth point had been earned.

Kylie Walker had won her first set on court two and led 6-3, 1-1. On court three, Isabella Heckman was set up for a marathon match as she had completed five games on her court and trailed 2-3 in the first set.

Rebekah Sheaffer was in the middle of her second set and was trailing 2-6, 1-2 at No. 4 singles, while Angela Tozzi had yet to complete her first set of action on court six. Tozzi was trailing 5-6 and on serve.

Season in Conclusion
The loss ends the Falcons season as their overall records stands at 7-9.

In the other semifinal match, York College and Alvernia University was postponed this afternoon and will be played at a later time. Lebanon Valley will face the winner of that matchup in the MAC Championship, whenever it gets played.
