Field Hockey tops Dickinson in Thrilling Season Opener

CARLISLE, Pa. – The No. 8 Messiah field hockey team opened the season with a thrilling 3-2 win at Dickinson, in overtime. Mallory Kline scored the game-winner from Lindsay McFeaters to propel the Falcons in their season opener. Earlier in the contest, Teagan Murrie got the Falcons on the board at the end of the first quart. In the fourth, Aubrey Clark put the Falcons in front with a goal early in the quarter, but a Red Devils' goal three minutes later forced overtime where Kline would play hero.

The Falcons will be back in action on Wednesday when they take on the Franklin and Marshall Diplomats in Lancaster at 7:15 p.m.
 
Action
After a Red Devils opened the scoring in the first quarter, the Falcons answered with a goal from Teagan Murrie to even the score at one after the first quarter. After a scoreless second quarter, the Falcons took their first of the game with the first career goal from Aubrey Clark in the 49th minute. With eight minutes remaining in the game, the Red Devils tied the game to force overtime. Four minutes into overtime, Lindsay McFeaters sent a pass in front of the goal and Mallory Kline sent the game winner into the back of the goal to give the Falcons a strong start to the season.

The goals from Teagan Murrie, Aubrey Clark, and Mallory Kline were the first of the season. Lindsay McFeathers tallied her first assist of the season. The Falcons outshot the Red Devils 24 to eight and had a 14-5 advantage on shots on goal. Messiah finished with 10 corners to Dickinson's eight.
 
Next
The win gives the Falcons a 1-0 start to the season. The Falcons travel to Lancaster, Pa. to take on the Diplomats of Franklin and Marshall College on Wednesday, September 6 at 7:15 p.m. Messiah's first home game of the season will be on Saturday, Sept. 9 against the No. 4 Sea Gulls of Salisbury University at 1:00 p.m.
