First-Half Offense leads Women’s Basketball Past Widener

GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Messiah University women's basketball team used a great first-half of shooting to lead the Falcons to a 75-64 win over the Widener University Pride on Wednesday night. The Falcons dominated the first half shooting 66.7 percent in the first quarter and 50 percent from the field in the second quarter to jump to a 44-22 lead at the half. The third quarter was more balanced, but the Pride could only cut into the Falcons massive lead by two points. The Pride continued to play well in the fourth, but the Falcons held off a late comeback attempt to defeat the Pride. Morgan Adams led the Falcons with 28 points, seven rebounds, two blocks, and two steals.
 
Up next, the Falcons travel to Eastern University on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 1:00 p.m.

First Quarter
The Falcons opened the game strong with a 12-3 run that started with a layup from Morgan Adams and ended with a three from Kiara Bomboy to give the Falcons a nine-point lead in the first four minutes. After some matching baskets the Falcons ended the quarter on a 9-2 run that was led by a behind the back finish from Chloe Milanesi to give the Falcons a 24-9 lead.
 
Second Quarter
The Pride started the second quarter strong with a 6-2 run to cut the Falcons lead to 11 in the first two minutes of the quarter. The Falcons then went on a 9-2 run that started with a three from Hope Cook and ended with a jumper from Ainsley Bell to give the Falcons an 18-point lead with four minutes remaining in the half. After some back-and-forth play the Falcons finished the half on a 7-2 run that was capped off by a buzzer beater lay up from Sydney Hoffman to give the Falcons a 44-22 lead at the half.
 
Third Quarter
The two teams spent the third quarter trading baskets, but the Pride scored the last basket to outscore the Falcons 17-15 in the quarter to put the score at 59-39. Morgan Adams led the Falcons with 13 points in the quarter.
 
Fourth Quarter
The Falcons started the quarter with a 6-2 run that started with a jumper from Chloe Milanesi. The Pride then went on a 14-4 run to cut the Falcons lead to 14 with four minutes remaining in the fourth. The Falcons got a couple of key buckets from Morgan Adams and two free throws from Charlotte Milanesi to hold off a late comeback and give the Falcons a 75-64 win.

Morgan Adams led the Falcons with 28 points, seven rebounds, two blocks, and two steals. Chloe Milanesi totaled 12 points, 6 rebounds, five assists, two steals, and a block. Reese Harden added nine points, four rebounds, four assists, two steals, and a block. The Falcons shot 55.2 percent from the field and 38.5 percent from three. The Pride shot 39.3 percent from the field and 18.2 percent from three.
