FREDERICK, Md. – The Messiah men's basketball team suffered a 94-62 setback on Saturday afternoon against the Hood Blazers in Frederick, Md. Early buckets from the Blazers had the Falcons playing from behind for the entirety of the contest. The Blazers finished the opening half on a 16-3 run to take a 49-27 advantage into the break. Three Hood treys in the opening 90 seconds of the second half extended the lead to 29 points and Messiah was unable to make it a game down the stretch.
The Falcons look to avenge their home overtime loss against the Golden Wolves earlier in the season as they travel to Alvernia University Wednesday Jan, 31.
First Half
The Blazers got off to a hot start to open the game. Hood would score the first eight points until a
Bryce Coletti three broke the scoring drought to make it 8-3 in the first two minutes. Messiah would slowly fight their way back into the game, with Coletti,
Cam Koscinski, and
Cole Fisher leading the way to make it a 18-14 deficit. Hood would follow up a
Johnny McBride dunk with a 9-0 run extending their lead to 30-16 with nine minutes remaining in the half. Two fisher threes kept the Falcons in the game cutting the deficit to 33-24. However, the Blazers finished the half strong outscoring the Falcons 16-3 to end the half up 49-27.
Second Half
Hood came out firing in the first 90 seconds sinking three threes opening their lead to 29 points. Fisher and
Luke Hostetler knocked down some threes to open the half for the Falcons, followed by points from
Dylan Cuperus and McBride making the score 69-42 with 12 minutes left in the game. The Blazers made it tough for the Falcons to score the rest of the way, while pouring it on from beyond the arc finishing the game shooting 43 percent from downtown. Messiah ended the game shooting 33.3 percent from the field and 26 percent from beyond the arc with Fisher making five out of the 11 threes the Falcons took. Fisher would end the game with 17 points, while McBride added 12 points and Coletti with 11 on the day.

Messiah will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Reading to take on the Alvernia Golden Wolves for a MAC Commonwealth game at 7:00 p.m.
