Defense Shines as Falcons Hold Hood to 25 Points

FREDREICK, Md. – For the first time since Feb. 15, 2022, the Messiah women's basketball team held an opponent to less than 30 points. On Saturday afternoon, Messiah earned a 49-25 victory over the Hood Blazers to improve to 8-0 in the MAC Commonwealth and extend their winning streak to nine games.
 
Morgan Adams nearly outscored the Blazers on her own, scoring 20 points and grabbing nine rebounds to lead the team. Chloe Milanesi also finished a rebound shy of a double-double with 12 points and nine boards.
 
The Blazers were also the last team the Falcons held under 30 points. Hood scored 29 in a 74-29 setback against the Falcons during the 2021-22 season.
 
Messiah will be back in action on Wednesday night when they host the Alvernia Golden Wolves at 7:00 p.m. on Jordan Court in Hitchcock Arena.
 
First Quarter
The Falcons started the game strong with a Morgan Adams layup and a Chloe Milanesi three to give the Falcons a 5-0 lead in the first three minutes of the game. After a Hood free throw, the Falcons then went on a quick 6-0 run that was started by a Liv Monturo jumper and ended with a Morgan Adams jumper to give the Falcons a 11-1 lead with 3:40 remaining in the quarter. The Blazers ended the quarter with a 4-2 stretch to put the score at 13-5 at the end of the first quarter.
 
Second Quarter
Both teams played great defense to start the quarter with the first basket coming from the Blazers with 4:30 remaining in the half. The two teams traded baskets to end the half with Sydney Hoffman and Morgan Adams scoring for the Falcons and Messiah led 17-13 at the break.

Third Quarter
The Falcons dominated the third quarter going on a 20-4 run that lasted the entire quarter. Morgan Adams caught fire in the third with 10 points in the quarter to lead the Falcons run to give the Falcons a 37-17 lead headed into the fourth quarter.
 
Fourth Quarter
The Falcons started the quarter strong with a three from Chloe Milanesi and another Morgan Adams layup to push the Falcons lead to 42-17. The two teams traded baskets to end the game with Raegan Fogarty, Izzy Ipri, and Hope Cook scoring for the Falcons down the stretch.
 
Stats
Morgan Adams led the Falcons with 20 points, nine rebounds, two steals, and a block. Chloe Milanesi added 12 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and two steals. The Falcons shot 40 percent from the field and 18.2 percent from three. The Blazers shot 26.8 percent from the field and 0-9 from three. The Falcons also forced 24 Hood turnovers in a great defensive effort.
