READING, Pa. – The Messiah University women's basketball team cruised to a 73-56 win at Albright College on Wednesday night in the MAC Commonwealth opener. The Falcons and Lions were close after the first quarter, but a 13-2 run in the second quarter opened the door for the Falcons to take over the game. The Falcons never looked back and continued to dominate the rest of the game.
Morgan Adams led the Falcons with 22 points and
Reese Harden also scored 20 points.
Liv Monturo added a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Up next, the Falcons return to Jordan Court in Hitchcock Arena for the first time in a month with a MAC Commonwealth matchup against the Hood College Blazers on Saturday, Jan. 6 at 2:00 p.m.
First Quarter
The Lions started the game strong with a 6-2 run in the first three minutes to give Albright an early lead. The Falcons responded with a 5-2 run that was led by two
Reese Harden baskets to reduce the Lions lead to 8-7 midway through the first. After a couple of Lions free throws, the Falcons answered again this time with an 8-2 run to take a 15-12 lead with two minutes remaining.
EmmyFaith Wood and
Kiara Bomboy each made a three and
Ainsley Bell added a jumper during the run. The Lions made two free throws in the final two minutes, to give the Falcons a 15-14 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Second Quarter
The Falcons shook of the rust in the second quarter with a 13-2 run to take a 28-16 with 5:52 remaining in the half. The run was led by seven points from
Morgan Adams. The teams then traded baskets with Adams continuing to dominate the second quarter with four more points. Both teams then scored finished the half with six points each, with the Lions making two threes and
EmmyFaith Wood,
Kiara Bomboy, and Adams each scoring for the Falcons to put the score at 38-26 at the half.
Third Quarter
The Lions started the third quarter strong with a 6-2 run in the first two minutes to reduce the Falcons lead to eight. The Falcons then went on a 9-2 run that was led by six points from
Reese Harden to push the Falcons lead up to 49-34 with 3:58 remaining in the third. The Lions would not go away and scored seven straight points in just a minute to reduce the Falcons lead to eight. The Falcons outscored the Lions 4-2 with a
Liv Monturo layup being the final Falcons bucket of the quarter to give the Falcons 53-43 lead headed into the fourth.
Fourth Quarter
The Falcons opened the fourth quarter strong with a quick 5-2 run in the first two minutes led by five points from
Liv Monturo. The Falcons then outscored the Lions 6-5 in the next three minutes to give the Falcons a 64-51 lead midway through the fourth. The Falcons then outscored the Lions 9-5 in the final five minutes, led by five points from
Reese Harden to put the final score at 73-56.
