No. 8 Women’s Soccer Downs Spartans

GRANTHAM, Pa. – The eighth-ranked Messiah University women's soccer team defeated the Spartans of York College on Saturday evening. The Falcons got on the board early with a Tahlia Lloyd goal off a corner to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead in the third minute. The Falcons could not add to their lead in the first half and their defense shut down the Spartans offense to keep the score at 1-0 headed into the break. The Falcons offense got back on the board in the 66th minute with a long-range shot from Hannah Adair by Julia Martin. The Falcons offense kept rolling with the second goal of the game from Tahlia Lloyd less than a minute later to push the Falcons lead to 3-0. The Falcons kept the Spartans offense at bay and held possession for most of final 33 minutes to win 3-0.
 
Up next, the Falcons travel to Reading, Pa. to take on the Golden Wolves of Alvernia University on Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 7:00 p.m.
 
First Half
The Falcons got the offense rolling early with a corner kick in the third minute. Bella Touzeau took the corner and sent the ball right in front of the goal. The York goalkeeper got a hand on it, but the ball fell right in front of Tahlia Lloyd, and she sent the ball into the back of the goal to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. The Falcons added one more shot on goal from Kristina Akselsen, but the York goalkeeper made the save to keep the game at 1-0. The Falcons defense shut down the Spartans attack, allowing zero shots in the first half.
 
Second Half
After a couple of scoring opportunities from Brittany Laird were saved by the York goalkeeper, the Falcons looked to add to their lead in the 66th minute. The Falcons possessed the ball just outside the right side of the box. Julia Martin quickly passed the ball to Hannah Adair and Adair ripped a shot from about 25 yards out into the left corner of the goal to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead. A little less than a minute later, the Falcons looked to add to their lead. Tahlia Lloyd received the ball about 30 yards from the goal and she dribbled to the edge of the box and ripped a shot on goal. The shot went bar down into the back of the goal to push the Falcons lead to 3-0. The Falcons kept the Spartans offense at bay and held possession for most of final 33 minutes to win 3-0.

Tahlia Lloyd led the Falcons with two goals. Hannah Adair added a goal. Julia Martin tallied an assist. The Falcons totaled 22 shots with seven shots on goal. The Spartans tallied two shots with one shot on goal. The Falcons earned 10 corner kicks to the Spartans one. Ava Wert earned the win in goal for the Falcons and made one save.
