ANNVILLE, PA. – On Saturday morning, the Messiah women's volleyball team traveled to Lebanon Valley College for a tri-match with the Dutchmen and Cheyney University. In match one the Falcons defeated Lebanon Valley College 3-1 (20-25, 25-20, 25-23, 31-19).
Makenzie Adams and
Cassidy Dell finished the match with 14 kills each, while
Emma Swartz tallied 29 assists. In match two, the Falcons swiftly defeated Cheyney University (25-4, 25-6, 25-16) to close out the LVC Tri-Match.

Kate Howe led the team with 17 assists, and eight service aces.

Messiah defeats LVC 3-1 (20-25, 25-20, 25-23, 31-19)
Set One
The Falcons found themselves in a competitive set to begin, both teams would exchange points back forth until a Falcons 5-1 run gave them a 11-8 advantage.
Makenzie Adams and
Katie Quesenberry found some success with a couple kills early. As the set continued, the Dutchmen found a rhythm scoring six of the next seven to regain an 14-12 lead.
Cassidy Dell and
Sarah Hart would break the LVC run to make it an 15-14 set. However, another run from the Dutchmen allowed them to an extend their lead to 21-17. Following a LVC service ace, Messiah would respond with a 3-0 run of their own, cutting the deficit to 21-20. But it was not enough as a Falcon attack error and three straight service aces would close out the set for the Dutchmen 25-20.
Set Two
The Dutchmen continued their success from set one jumping out to an early 5-3 lead. Messiah took advantage of a couple attack errors to tie the set up at 5-5. Following three straight LVC points, Adams and
Julia Bowen would help the Falcons claw their way back into the set at 10-9. However, another Dutchmen run extended their lead to 13-9. But the Falcons were not going away just yet now trailing 14-11, Messiah's offense woke up thanks to Quesenberry and Dell scoring seven of the next eight to grab an 18-15 lead. Following a LVC timeout, the Dutchmen would score three straight points to tie the set up at 18-18. For a brief stretch both teams exchanged points with Messiah clinging to an 21-19 advantage. But the Falcons managed to close out the set with two service aces from
Aunyka Uresti and
Emma Swartz and kills from Adams to win the set 25-20.
Set Three
Messiah kicked things off in the third set scoring five of the first six to take an early 5-1 lead. But the Dutchmen were not willing to roll over, scoring five of the next six to take a hold of an 7-6 lead. Following kills from Quesenberry and Cythia Boller, the Dutchmen would score the next three extending their lead to 10-8. However, Messiah continued their pursuit tying the set up at 12-12 getting points from Adams, Bowen, and Quesenberry. The Falcons kept their foot on the gas extending their lead to 17-13 to force an LVC timeout. Dell, Boller, and multiple LVC errors allowed the Falcons to grow their lead to 22-17. However, the Dutchmen had other ideas, slowly LVC began to chip away at the Falcon lead to cut the deficit to 23-22. But a costly set error and a Swartz kill gave the Falcons the 25-23 set three win.
Set Four
To begin the fourth set both teams exchanged points until an LVC kill gave the Dutchmen an early 5-4 lead. Following a Bowen kill, LVC rallied to score four straight points to take a hold of an 8-6 advantage. Adams managed to score one more to cut the deficit to one, but LVCs offense continued to roll extending their lead to 11-7. However, the Falcons did not remain quiet scoring four of the next five to cut the deficit to 12-11. Both squads exchanged a couple more points, but it was the Dutchmen who managed to provide some breathing room with an 18-15 advantage at the midway mark of the set. The Falcons were able to take advantage of three Dutchmen errors and points from
Erin Eby and Quesenberry to regain a 21-20 advantage. From that point on it was a seesaw set, with both teams exchanging leads. Despite multiple match points from the Falcons, LVC would not go away extending the set into the 27-27 mark. However, points from Boller, Adams, and Bowen propelled the Falcons late to win the set 31-29.

Makenzie Adams finished the match with 14 kills each.
Emma Swartz tallied a team high 29 assists, while Dell totaled 25 of her own. Adams would also finish the match with a team leading 14 digs.

Messiah Defeats Cheyney University 3-0 (25-4, 25-6, 25-16)
Set One
The Falcons got off to a fast start and never looked back. Messiahs' offense came out red hot scoring the first eight points of the set led by
Kate Howes four service aces to take an 8-0 lead. The Wolves managed to break up the run, with a Falcon attack error. But Messiah got right back on the horse scoring nine straight points to extend their lead to 17-1. Following another Falcon error, Messiah took advantage of multiple Wolves errors and points from
Leah Youtzy and
Aunyka Uresti to win the opening set 25-4.
Set Two
Messiah would once again get off to a strong start scoring eight of the first 10 to hold an 8-2 advantage. Following back-to-back kills from
Sarah Hart and
Cassidy Dell, the Falcons would rally behind Howes serves to extend their lead to 17-2. The Wolves managed to break up the Falcon runs with a couple of points, but it was never enough to slow down the Falcons offense. Dell,
Chayney Barnhart, and
Julia Bowen would all score points as Messiah went on to take set two 25-6.
Set Three
The Wolves came out fired up scoring four of the first five to grab an early 4-1 lead. However, the Falcons offense picked things up with points from Hart, Youtzy, and
Erin Eby to regain an 7-5 lead. The Wolves continued to respond despite small runs from Messiah to only trail 14-9. The Falcons however took advantage of a couple Wolfe errors, and points from Bowen and Hart to extend their lead to 18-12. Over the next stretch of points both teams split it 4-4, but the Falcons still led 22-16. Uresti and Youtzy would close out the set scoring two of the final three points to win the set 25-16.
