GRANTHAM, Pa. – On Friday evening, the Messiah University women's volleyball swept the Knights of Neumann University, (25-14, 25-23, 25-14). After a back-and-forth start to set one the Falcons cruised with a seven-point run mid-set to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. Set two though was a battle, the Falcons jumped to an early set lead, but the Knights fought back to cut the Falcons lead to 24-23.
Cynthia Boller finished the set with a kill from
Cassidy Dell to push the Falcons to a two set to none lead. The Falcons went back to dominating in the third set, to end the match with a 25-14 set three win.
Chayney Barnhart,
Makenzie Adams, and
Katie Quesenberry led the Falcons with nine kills each.
Cassidy Dell totaled 15 assists, 14 digs, and eight kills.
Emma Swartz led the Falcons with 18 assists.
Up next, the Falcons host the Pride of Widener University on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 7:00 p.m. in Jordan Court in Hitchcock Arena.
Set One
After some points for both teams to open the match, the Falcons went off on a 9-2 run that gave the Falcons an early 10-3 lead. During the run the Falcons were led by
Katie Quesenberry with four kills. After a couple points for the Knights, the Falcons used a 10-1 run from to pull away from the Knights, 21-8. The Falcons were by
Sarah Hart and
Cassidy Dell during the run with two kills each. The Knights earned some points to try and comeback in the set, but the Falcons capped off the first set with two more kills from
Katie Quesenberry to take set one 25-14.
Set Two
Set two started off strong for the Falcons with a 7-0 run to open the set.
Makenzie Adams led the Falcons in the run with three kills. The Knights got on the board, but a couple more kills from
Cassidy Dell helped the Falcons continue to push their lead to 16-6. Even with the deficit midway through the set, the Knights would not go away without a fight. The Knight rattled off a 17-8 run that pushed the score to 24-23 with the Falcons looking to close the set and the Knights looking to keep the set going. The Falcons though finished off the set with a kill from
Cynthia Boller from
Cassidy Dell to give the Falcons a two-set lead.
Set Three
The Falcons looked to close out the match with a set three win. The start to the set though was in favor for the Knights, with Neumann opening with a 3-1 lead. The Falcons responded with two kills coming from
Cynthia Boller and a couple of Neumann errors to retake the lead 5-4. After the Knights tied the set at five, the Falcons went on a 13-2 run to break open the third set, 18-7. The run was capped off by two kills and a block from
Chayney Barnhart. The Falcons continued to roll, finishing off their sweep with a 25-14 set three win.

Emma Swartz also totaled a double-double with 18 assists and 13 digs. Swartz is just 36 assists away from becoming just the sixth player in program history with 2000 career assists.
Caitlin Lielbriedis led the Falcons with 18 digs.
