GRANTHAM, Pa. – On Saturday evening, the fifth-ranked Messiah University women's soccer team dominated in a 7-0 win over the Lions of Albright College. The Falcons opened the game strong with goals from
Addi Martin,
Kristina Akselsen, and
Brittany Laird to give the Falcons a 3-0 lead in the 17th minute. The Falcons added three more goals in the first half, from
Hannah Adair, an own goal from Albright, and the second of the game from
Brittany Laird to give the Falcons a commanding 6-0 lead at the half. The Falcons controlled possession for the second half and added a goal on a penalty kick from
Ella Lent-Koop to give the Falcons the 7-0 win.
Up next, the Falcons host the MAC Commonwealth Semifinal game on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 6:00 p.m. As the top seed the Falcons will host the fourth-seeded Mustangs of Stevenson University.
First Half
The Falcons started the game immediately controlling the possession. In the 11th minute, the Falcons look to begin the scoring.
Bella Touzeau gathered the ball near the right corner and sent a pass to
Julia Martin near the edge of the right side of the box. Martin sent the cross into the middle of the box and after a Albright defender chested the ball down,
Addi Martin got possession of the ball. Martin then ripped a shot into the top-left corner to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. A little less than a minute later,
Kristina Akselsen sent a shot into the top-right corner to push the Falcons lead to two. The Falcons continued the pressure in the 17th minute. After a failed clear attempt from the Lions on a free kick,
Kristina Akselsen sent a pass into the box to
Mia Libby. The Alright goaltender cut off the angle for Libby to score, but Libby sent a pass across to the middle of the box.
Brittany Laird gathered the pass and then sent a shot into the left side of the goal to give the Falcons a 3-0 lead. A little over a minute later,
Brittany Laird added another goal this time from Akselsen to give the Falcons a 4-0 lead. The Falcons added two more goals in the first half, the first coming on an own goal by the Lions after a cross attempt from
Alayna Williams went off a Lions defender and the second coming from
Hannah Adair to give the Falcons a 6-0 lead at the break.
Second Half
The Falcons pushed the pace in the second half, but only added one more goal on a penalty kick by
Ella Lent-Koop for her first career goal. The Falcons defense shut down any attack from the Lions, with no shots allowed.
