Dickinson Downs Falcons in Final Home Game of 2024

GRANTHAM, PA. – On Saturday evening, the Messiah men's basketball team suffered a 70-53 loss to the Red Devils of Dickinson College. The Falcons were slow to the punch offensively in the first half, while the Red Devils had all the friendly rolls. Dickinson managed to get to the line 19 times in the first half, holding the Falcons to just 20 points on offense. The Falcons trailed 37-20 at the break. To begin the second half Caleb Lyles, Christian Jackson, and Luke Hostetler proved the much-needed offense to cut the deficit to 43-31. However, a 19-5 run from the Red Devils put the game out of reach for the Falcons with just five minutes remaining down 62-36. Cameron Thompson, Jack Duckett, Michael Bischoping, and Quint Fryer helped the Falcons close out the game on a 17-8 run, but the deficit was too much to overcome, dropping the final home contest of 2024.

First Half
Cole Fisher, Christian Jackson, and Johnny McBride were able to give the Falcons an early 9-6 lead, through the first four minutes of the game. However, as the game progressed the Red Devils were able to go on a 16-3 run, holding the Falcons to 0-6 from the field through a six minute stretch. As the Red Devils led 22-12, Caleb Lyles found some offensive success trying to will the Falcons back into the game. The Red Devils however, were able to get to the free throw line on back-to-back possessions to grow their lead to 34-17. Cameron Thompson knocked down a much needed three with 2:55 on the clock, but Dickinson closed out the half getting to the line in their final two possessions to take a 37-20 entering the break. 

Second Half
To begin the second half Lyles, Luke Hostetler, and Jackson created offense for the Falcons to cut the deficit to 43-31 through the opening seven minutes. However, a 13-2 run from the Red Devils stopped the Falcons in their tracks, expanding their lead to 56-33 with 7:52 on the clock. Following an and-one play from Lyles, Dickinson continued to make their way to the free throw line growing their lead to as large as 67-42 with just 4 minutes remaining. Michael Bischoping, Quint Fryer, and Jack Duckett provided solid minutes down the stretch, but the deficit was to much to overcome as Messiah dropped their final home game of 2024. 

Stats:
Caleb Lyles led the Falcons with 14 points, while Christian Jackson provided eight points, five rebounds, and three assists. Johnny McBride added another seven points, and Cameron Thompson knocked down two of his four threes taken to pick up six points.
