Widener Cruises Past Falcons

GRANTHAM, PA. - The Messiah men's basketball team fell to the hands of the Widener Pride 98-63. The Pride managed to get off to a hot start and never looked back dominating from start to finish in Hitchcock arena. The Falcons were led by senior guard Bryce Coletti with 15 points, while Caleb Lyles added nine points and seven rebounds. Messiah finished the game with 10 different scorers in the loss. 

Messiah will be on the road against York Saturday, Feb 10th. 

First Half Play
The Pride came out the gates hot, completely taking the life out of the Hitchcock arena opening up a 19-0 lead through the first six minutes of play. Two back to back Jack Ramsey layups would break the scoring drought in the 13th minute. Christian Jackson, Cole Fisher, and Bryce Coletti would get involved immediately following Ramsey to cut the Widener lead to 28-10 with 9:50 remaining in the half. However, the Pride never slowed down seemingly having their way on the offensive end ending the half scoring 49 total points, shooting 50 percent from the field with 23 points off turnovers. Messiah was held to their lowest first half point total of the season notching only 19 points.

Second Half 
The Falcons started the second half hot, going on a 8-2 run to cut the deficit to 52-29 through the first four minutes. However, despite the Falcons finding offense through Coletti, Jackson, and Lyles, Widener continued to pour it on never letting the Falcons get within striking distance. Over the remainder of the game the Falcons would get contributions from 10 different members as Rick Van-Pelt began to open up the bench. Despite the Pride finishing on the offensive end, the Falcons continued to play till the final whistle. Unfortunately the Pride would leave Grantham victorious with a 98-63 win. 

What's Up Next
The Falcons will travel to York, Pa to take on the Spartans of York College. In their last meeting the Spartans left Grantham with a 72-58 win. Messiah will look to get revenge Saturday, Feb 10th, tip off is set for 4:00p.m.
