All-Around Performance Starts Conference Slate with Victory

READING, Pa. – The Messiah baseball team earned a 7-2 victory over the Alvernia Golden Wolves to begin the MAC Commonwealth slate. The Falcons scored all seven of their runs across the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings, knocking a pair of home runs off the bat of Drew Hurst and Isaiah Parido.

Jason Hill tossed six strong innings in his conference debut, allowing two runs on five hits and picking up his second victory of the season.

The victory improves the Falcons to 10-4 on the season and starts the conference season 1-0. The Falcons and Golden Wolves will be back in action tomorrow afternoon for a doubleheader in Grantham, beginning at noon.

How It Happened
The Falcons were on the board first in the top of the fourth with Drew Hurst leading off the frame with a solo home run to right center. Hurst's drive was his first career home run and gave Messiah a 1-0 lead.

One inning later, Messiah put two more runs on the board with a sacrifice fly from Dylan Beard to shallow left center and a Drew Hurst single to right field. The frame started with a one-out single from Joshua Ammons and a walk from Evan Wagaman to put two runners on.  After a wild pitch, Beard lifted the sacrifice fly and Hurst singled after to put Messiah up 3-0.

Holding a 3-0 lead, the Falcons added insurance runs with a massive sixth inning. Pinch hitting, Luke Ott reached on an infield single and stole second base. For a moment, Nick Moyer looked to have hit a homer run to left field, but a robbery by the left fielder kept the game at 3-0 for the moment. Isaiah Parido changed that score quickly, launching a two-run homer to straight-away centerfield to make it a 5-0 game.

Joshua Ammons kept the rally going with a double to right center. A walk to Evan Wagaman and an infield single by Dylan Beard loaded the bases. An error and a hit-by-pitch allowed two more runs to score as the Falcons took a 7-0 lead.

The Golden Wolves left the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth, but pushed two runs across in the seventh on three hits and an error.

Neither team scored across the eighth or ninth frames and the Falcons earned the 7-2 victory.

What's Up Next
