Men’s Lacrosse Uses Dominant Second Half to Cruise Past LVC

GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Messiah University men's lacrosse team dominated in the second half and breezed to a 21-10 win over the Lebanon Valley Flying Dutchmen on Thursday evening. The Flying Dutchmen and Falcons went back-and-forth in the first quarter with LVC taking a 5-4 lead. The Falcons outscored the Flying Dutchmen 5-2 in the second quarter to take a 9-7 lead at the half. The Falcons offense in the third quarter pour on eight goals and after the third quarter the Falcons led 17-9. The Falcons put the finishing touches on the win with four more goals in the fourth to earn the 21-10 win. Bobby Berg led the Falcons with eight points on six goals and two assists. Mike McKnelly finished with six points on five goals and an assist. Chad Teresky and Ben Antel each finished with four points.
 
Up next, the Falcons host the Hood College Blazers for the MAC Commonwealth Opener on Saturday, April 6 at 1:00 p.m.

First Quarter
The Flying Dutchmen opened the first quarter with a goal in the first minute to give them a 1-0 lead. The Falcons answered back with two goals from Seth Libby and Chad Teresky to give the Falcons a 2-1 lead with 10:27 remaining in the first. After four minutes of back-and-forth play, the Flying Dutchmen tied the game at three. Just 11 seconds later the Falcons retook the lead with a Mike McKnelly goal from Ben Antel. Three minutes later, the Flying Dutchmen tied the game with a man-up goal. Again, the Falcons answered quickly with the McKnelly and Antel connection working again, but the Flying Dutchmen tied the game at four with 2:46 remaining in the first. The Flying Dutchmen though added another goal with less than a minute remaining to take a 5-4 lead after the first quarter.
 
Second Quarter
The Flying Dutchmen opened the second quarter with two straight goals to give the Flying Dutchmen a 7-4 lead with 12:52 remaining in the half. The Falcons then closed the first half with a 5-0 run that was led by two goals from Bobby Berg and Mike McKnelly to give the Falcons a 9-7 lead at the half.
 
Third Quarter
The Falcons opened the third quarter with three straight goals from Mike McKnelly, Chad Teresky, and Bobby Berg to push the Falcons lead to 12-7 with 10:52 remaining in the third. Two minutes later the Flying Dutchmen answered with a goal, but the Falcons went on another five-goal run that was highlighted by a coast-to-coast goal from Nate Jaloszynski to push the Falcons lead up to 17-8. The Flying Dutchmen scored a goal with under 30 seconds to go in the third to reduce the Falcons lead to 17-9 entering the final quarter.
 
Fourth Quarter
The Falcons opened the fourth with a Ben Antel goal in the first six seconds. The Flying Dutchmen added a goal three minutes later, but the Falcons put the finishing touches on the win with dominant defense and three straight goals from Mike McKnelly, Bobby Berg, and Seth Libby to give the Falcons a 21-10 win.
 
Stats
Bobby Berg led the Falcons with eight points on six goals and two assists and added a caused turnover and four ground balls. Mike McKnelly finished with six points on five goals and an assist and talled two caused turnovers and two ground balls. Chad Teresky and Ben Antel each finished with four points. Owen Hammel and Seth Libby also each tallied three points. Walker Penchansky led the Falcons with three caused turnovers and scooped up four ground balls. Grant Peffall added in two caused turnovers and three ground balls. Ben Antel went 20-of-33 from the faceoff X and finished with a game-high nine ground balls. Jourdain Algarin started in the cage for the Falcons and made 13 saves. Josh Grove also earned time in net for the Falcons.
